Frequently-Asked Questions

Q: Why should we use eLearning to train?

A: Traditional instructor-led training puts everyone in a classroom, with an expert who presents lectures, demonstrations, and activities within a limited amount of time. While this approach can be effective, it has several disadvantages. It’s expensive to schedule and facilitate classroom training. It’s not always effective for everyone. Some participants need more time and attention than the classroom format allows. Others want to move as quickly as possible. Some people learn differently than others and don’t benefit from certain presentations. When the instructional staff moves on and becomes unavailable, the consistency and quality of training can decline. HR and other support staff often "re-invent the wheel" to address immediate needs, rather than build on a solid training foundation.

eLearning can solve many of the issues with traditional training. There’s no need to coordinate and schedule a group of people. Each learner can take the training when it’s convenient for them to do so, and the training can respond to each individual learner. It can assess abilities and knowledge, and customize its approach to ensure that each learner receives precisely the training that they require. It can repeat content until the learner understands and develops the required skills. When properly designed, it can adapt to different job types and work locations, and track and analyze learning data to help fine-tune the learning activities and ensure productivity.

Q:  What is your workflow for eLearning development?

A:  Most of our projects are divided into four stages:  Discovery, Design, Production, Review, and Deployment. This is similar to the ADDIE methodology, which allows us to minimize unnecessary development time and costs. If your project team follows the AGILE development methodology, contact us for consultation on how we can accommodate you.

  • Discovery:  We start with a kick-off meeting to discuss the needs for your project, your intended audience, and the objectives for your training. Together we'll determine the project scope and plan, with an estimate on costs.

  • Design:  We work with your subject matter experts to create the blueprint for what we'll deliver. This will include learning pathways, logical flows, and any special coding or media requirements. During this stage, you'll also approve the general appearance, layout, and graphic style for content.

  • Production:  We work with your subject matter experts to create a course script with the content you provide. After you approve the script, we will build and populate the course.

  • Review:  As each section of the course is completed, you will review and communicate revisions using our collaborative online review site. During this stage, quality check is also performed on the course to ensure functionality and course completion. During this stage, you can also invite members of your organization to participate in user-acceptance testing and verify that the training meets your objectives.

  • Deployment:  When the finished course is approved, we will send you the published course files to upload to your Learning Management System (LMS). If your organization does not have an LMS, we can host the course for your organization for a monthly subscription fee.

Q:  How quickly can we get something produced and ready for training?

A:  It depends on the amount of content you need to produce, the design and media options you select, and when we can fit your project into our schedule. As an example, a 20-minute course, with basic interactivity, graphics and audio, can go through the entire development process within 3 to 6 weeks, depending on the availability and participation of your subject matter experts.

A:  What are the cost estimates per project?

Q:  Again, this depends on the amount of content, the options you choose, and the number of review cycles you need. There are several variables that impact your final costs, including whether your content changes after script approval. During the Discovery stage, we'll work together on a detailed estimate for your project. Generally, we estimate $100-$300 per minute of finished content.

A:  What options do we have to control costs?

Q:  We offer different types of deliverables to help you fit eLearning into your budget. These include basic PowerPoint presentations, microvideos, and fully interactive online training.

A:  Can we revise the training at a later date?

Q:  Yes. Revisions after deployment will be billed according to the scope of the changes. A complete course refresh would be a "new" project. Simple revisions will be billed on an hourly basis.

A:  Who owns the final project files?

Q:You do. You'll receive the published files to deploy for training. We can keep the project files, or deliver them to you, for future revisions and development.
